July 2000 - New Annexes for ITU-T Recommendations Q.920 & Q.921 decided
The new Annexes for ITU-T Recommendations Q.920 & Q.921, referred to in November 1999 (see below) were "decided" at the June 2000 SG11 meeting. Relevant ISO/IEC and ECMA mapping standards are now being revised to refer to these new annexes.
The new annexes are available in the pre-publication section of the ITU-T website (www.itu.int).
July 2000 - Profile Standard for use of QSIG in Air Traffic Services Networks
At the end of June 2000 the General Assembly of ECMA approved for publication as an ECMA Standard, the Profile Standard developed by EUROCONTROL and PQM Consultants for the use of PSS1 (QSIG) in ATS networks. This Standard has been published with the number ECMA-312 and is available from the ECMA website (www.ecma.ch). This Approval is the first major milestone on the way to the Profile Standard becoming a European Norme (formal European Standard).
June 2000 - TIA / EIA Test plan for multi-vendor QSIG interoperability testing
Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR41.1 committee is nearing completion of work on a Test Plan for Multi-Vendor QSIG Interoperability Testing. This Telecommunications Systems Bulletin (TSB) describes a set of tests for the functional testing of QSIG features for interoperability between two vendors' QSIG offerings.
May 2000 - Profile Standard for Virtual Private Networks with QSIG interfaces.
ECMA has commenced work on drafting a Profile Standard for Virtual Private Networks (VPN) with QSIG interfaces. The purpose of this Standard is to encourage Service Providers offering a QSIG based VPN service to do so in a harmonised manner. Completion of the work is planned for the end of the year and publication of this Standard is expected to stimulate the market for QSIG based VPN services.
May 2000 - CTM Standards superseded by Standards for WTM
European Standards for Cordless Terminal Mobility in Private Integrated Services Networks (PISN) have been superseded by new International Standards for Wireless Terminal Mobility. At its May 2000 meeting in Obernai, France, ECMA TC32 agreed that its work to gain recognition of QSIG CTM Standards at the Worldwide level had been successfully completed. However, because of some significant differences, ECMA members agreed that the older CTM Standards should be phased out and should no longer be used for new implementations.
November 1999 - New Annexes for ITU-T Recommendations Q.920 & Q.921
At its November 1999 meeting ITU-T SG 11 produced new annexes to Q.920 and Q.921 to cover PINX-to-PINX operation. Annex A to Q.920 and Annex J to Q.921 were "determined" at the meeting and are due to be "decided" at the June 2000 SG11 meeting. Once this has been achieved, ISO/IEC and ECMA mapping standards will be revised to refer to these new annexes.
The new annexes are based on the existing layer 2 specification used for PINX-to-PINX operation defined in Annex ZA of ETS 300 402-1 and Annex ZA of ETS 300 402-2, the EuroISDN layer 2 specifications. One technical difference is the inclusion of the selective reject option (Annex E of Q.921). This capability is intended for applications where bandwidth is constrained and there are long delays, with a high probability of outstanding I-frames. However, this capability will probably not be required in QSIG mapping standards.
