Conformance Test Specifications (CTS) for the QSIG Basic Call and for the QSIG Generic Functional Protocol have existed for some time. These allow vendors to obtain verification of the compliance of their QSIG implementation against the relevant Standards. At least one commerical test house offers a QSIG conformance testing service.
ETSI currently has a Specialist Task Force in progress to produce conformance test specifications for some QSIG supplementary services, primarily for the Virtual Private Network context. This will facilitate referencing standardised QSIG supplementary services in procurement.
The supplementary services being covered are:
Conformance Test Specifications only allow vendors to demonstrate compliance of their implementation against the Standards. Interoperability Testing, on the other hand, allows vendors to demonstrate the interoperability of their equipment with that from other manufacturers. Unfortunately, there are no formally published interoperability test specifications for QSIG yet (TIA/EIA have some in the pipeline that should be published towards the end of 2000). Some manufacturers have their own certification programmes where they will certify that equipment from other vendors will interoperate with their own. However, this is not an independent and objective certification procedure. Using our in-depth knowledge of the QSIG protocol we have written interoperability test specifications for specific networks and applications that are impartial and objective tests of vendor's implementations.
